Friday's Food for Thought- Earthquake Drill & the Great Shake Out

On Thursday, Oct 16th, we held our first Earthquake Drill (Drop, Cover, Hold) along with other schools taking part in the annual Great British Columbia Shakeout. Our next earthquake drill will be in the spring (date TBA) and will include an evacuation. As we plan for this drill, look for invitations to come participate with us! An important aspect of the drill is practicing the student release portion. For example, in the event of an earthquake, students must be signed out by a parent/guardian/emergency contact, prior to leaving the school, so that emergency teams know the whereabouts of all students and can respond accordingly, as well as report to families accurate and up-to-date information regarding the status of their child(ren). For example, a dedicated team of student release staff would be able to share information such as: Student A was released to emergency contact  (Grandparent A) at 1:35 OR Student A is currently in the First Aid station receiving care, etc. Our student release team is dedicated to connecting with families and ensuring that we can account for all students.

There is a need here at Sidney Elementary to refresh expired food, water and emergency supplies in our Emergency Sea Can.  We are working with PAC fundraising in an effort to raise funds to do this.  If you are able to contribute to the PAC's Fundraising efforts we very much appreciate the support!

We will have an easy to donate link on your students account at an upcoming date.

Thank you for your donation to this important purchase of new emergency supplies!
