Friday's Food for Thought- Bee Here Because Campaign
Bee Here Because Campaign – A Student Attendance Initiative
As we step into 2026, Sidney School staff and the Parent Advisory Council invite families to join us in giving students the greatest gift for success in Terms 2, 3, and beyond—the gift of regular school attendance.
Why Bee Here?
Bee Here Because the benefits of consistent attendance reach far beyond the classroom:
- Connection and Belonging: Students who attend regularly build strong relationships with peers and caring adults. They feel part of the Sidney community and know we are deeply invested in their success.
- Growth and Motivation: Being present creates a positive cycle of motivation and supports a growth mindset.
- Access to Support: Many specialized supports and targeted interventions happen at school. When students are absent, these opportunities are missed.
- Academic Success: More time in class means more learning. Regular attendance often leads to higher proficiency and better outcomes.
- Future Readiness: Good attendance builds responsibility, work ethic, and habits that prepare students for middle school, high school, and life beyond.
- Long-Term Impact: Students with strong attendance are more likely to graduate and have more options for post-secondary education and careers.
Did you know?
Chronic absenteeism is defined as missing about 18 days per school year (excused or unexcused)—that’s roughly 2 days per month. For more information and helpful strategies, check out the Attendance Counts! Toolkit
Our Commitment
Parents and guardians, you are essential partners in this effort. This campaign is rooted in care and collaboration. Together, we can make a difference.
Over the next few weeks, I’ll be reviewing first-term attendance data. If I reach out to you, please know it’s because I care deeply about your child’s success. My role—and the role of every staff member—is to help. When you hear from me by phone, email, or letter, I hope you feel that support.
Sidney students are a gift, and I’m grateful every day for the opportunity to help them thrive.
Warmly,
Mrs. Mary Lynn Heron
