ÍY SȻÁĆEL Sidney Families,

We ended our week with Fun Hair Day and Hot Lunch today! Students had many creative hairstyles including some hair bird’s nests! So much creativity. We look forward to more Spirit Days throughout the school year.

Student Drop Off and Pick Up

Drop Off and Pick Up at RRE | Ridge Road Elementary SchoolPlease note that there is no student drop off or pick up in the front drive leading to the school's main entrance or in the bus loading zone in front of the school. All parking/drop-off and pick-up can take place in our designated visitor stalls at the front and side of our school building. The front of our school, closest to the front entrance, is designated accessible parking and a fire lane which must be kept clear. We also ask that you are mindful of our neighbours driveways and do not block them while picking up or dropping off. Thank you for your cooperation.

Emergency Drills at School

Throughout the year, students practice a variety of drills. Your child has probably mentioned one of our many fire or earthquake drills. On January 25th our school will be having our yearly Shelter In Place drill. This drill is for our school to practice what to do if there is a reason it is unsafe for students to go outside and we all need to stay indoors, such as a gas leak in the neighborhood. For this drill, we lock the outside doors but inside the school, class activities continue as normal. Most students won't even realize the drill is happening.

On February 1st, our school will be having our annual lockdown drill. In this drill, staff and students will be practicing staying in their rooms quietly in a designated space, while local police ensure the school is safe. It lasts approximately 10 minutes. This drill can cause feelings of nervousness in some students, so as with all drills, teachers will go over what to expect with their students. We will send out another reminder to families a couple of days before the drill.

Read Around the School

A reminder to families that we will be hosting Read Around the School on Friday January 27th from 8:45 - 9:10 am. Please come and join us in this school wide event where we read with each other and enjoy books together. Please come to your child’s classroom right after our morning announcements if you are able to attend.
